Release liner development chemist

Adhesives Research

This is a Full-time position in Glen Rock, NJ posted November 29, 2019.

Job Summary: Executes release liner development for pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape prototype development, scale-up, and product launch. Focuses on platform technology development, new product development for customer-driven projects, as well as continuous improvement and cost reduction of existing products and processes in relation to release liners. Emphasis on understanding silicone reaction chemistries, anchorage of silicone release liner chemistries to a variety of films (PET, paper, etc.), and analytical techniques for understanding release liner systems. Works with customers and AR teams to collect design input and develop new product design strategies. Technical and laboratory lead in developing new release liner solutions, robust products, and basic production processes that can be successfully commercialized.

Essential Functions:
· Conducts required laboratory work to develop new release liners and tape assemblies including polymerization, formulation, coating and testing
· Grows release liner testing capabilities and understanding within Adhesives Research
· Develops new products that lead to sustainable commercial revenue
· Functions as a technical lead on product development teams
· Develops design strategies based on robust design input
· Meets technical commitments in order to complete project progression dates and milestones
· Contributes to product scale up and development through reproducibility and validation testing support
· Detailed knowledge of required release liner chemical and physical test methods
· Detailed knowledge of silicone cure chemistry
· May supervise and teach other laboratory staff
· Responsible for the proper disposal of hazardous waste into the proper labeled containers and drums
· Interfaces with customers on new product applications
· Networks externally to assure the highest level of competence is maintained.
· Interfaces with associates from other departments as needed (e.g.

cross-functional teams)
· Documents lab work in electronic notebook and project reports
· Performs all duties consistent with established AR guidelines, ISO-9001, and elements of GMP deemed necessary to support the business (as outlined in the Quality Manual)
· Actively complies with and endorses Department and Company objectivesAdditional Responsibilities:

· BS degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or related field. Ph.D.

preferred but not required.
· Experience with release liner product development for the pressure sensitive adhesives industry and silicone cure chemistry
· Understanding of adhesive tape constructions (backing materials, release liner selection, adhesive chemistries, etc.)
· Knowledge of PSA rheology, dynamic mechanical analysis, and other physical polymer characterization methods and the interaction with release liners
· Familiarity with design of experiments software and set-up, ability to employ statistical analysis techniques
· Ability to develop and present effective technical presentations to internal and external customers
· Ability to manage multiple priorities
· Ability to use sensitive test equipment
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of AR information
· Must communicate fluently in English
· Excellent oral & written communication skills

· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
