Assistant Professor – Communication Studies

POSITION: ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR DEPARTMENT: COMMUNICATION STUDIES ACADEMIC YEAR OF HIRE: 2020-2021 The Department of Communication Studies at The College of New Jersey invites applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor in Digital Filmmaking to begin in fall 2020.

The Department’s curriculum situates the digital filmmaking within broader social and cultural contexts.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher and filmmaker with demonstrated expertise in digital cinematography and ancillary experience in sound for film and video production.

Preference will be given to candidates whose work speaks to social and cultural issues and whose work links to other disciplines.

Experience curating film/video programs, grant writing/program development and creating for new and emerging platforms a plus.

The ideal candidate would be able to teach introductory and advanced classes in video production and sound as well as develop new classes which focus on adapting storytelling to new and emerging platforms.

Candidates will also be expected to advise student organizations and curate programs for internal and external audiences.

Applicants must have a strong story sense, be fully conversant with the creative processes and practices of digital filmmaking and be committed to diversity and inclusivity.

The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching and have a record of creative work as evidenced by screenings at such venues as festivals, theaters, broadcast, media centers or emerging media platforms.

The candidate should have a demonstrated ability and commitment to engage productively with students at all skill levels, as well as an eagerness to foster a vital role for film production within the context of a liberal arts college.

The candidate must have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD in production-related area), teaching experience, and professional experience a plus.
